Web Developer

ICMA (the International City/County Management Association) is looking for an experienced .NET developer with an eye for design and user experience to work on our site’s web applications.
In addition to being a professional association for local government managers, ICMA offers consulting and technical assistance to international and U.S. local governments, publishes academic resources, conducts research and analysis of performance measurement data, and much more. ICMA's IT department supports many systems, and a developer at ICMA has plenty of opportunities to learn new skills and work on new projects.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Web Developer is responsible for development and maintenance of several key applications within ICMA's web site. The Web Developer should be comfortable developing and maintaining systems using in VB.NET, JavaScript/jQuery, CSS, and Microsoft SQL Server.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop and maintain applications and customizations for ICMA’s CMS and Knowledge Network in conjunction with internal and external developers.
• Maintain and implement enhancements to legacy ColdFusion applications.
• Develop and maintain SQL code (design and create databases, stored procedures, etc.) to support web application development, data queries for reporting, and systems integrations.
• Maintain ICMA’s SVN code repository and documentation.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

Facility with current web development technology, including jQuery, AJAX, JavaScript, VB.NET, CSS and SQL are requirements for this position. Experience with or willingness to work with legacy ColdFusion systems is desired.

Additional skill requirements include:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills. You'll be helping non-technical internal customers translate business requirements into actionable design/development specifications.
• Superior organization and documentation skills. You'll be responsible for a variety of web-based systems, and should be able to demonstrate your attention to detail and willingness to provide thorough, clear documentation as you work.
• Development experience with web services, RSS, XML, and building and consuming APIs for integration between systems.
• Knowledge of design and usability principles. You don't consider web development to be entirely separate from design and user interface.
• Familiarity with web standards and cross-browser, cross-platform development and testing. You should be able to demonstrate your ability to use CSS for tableless layout.

• Experience with developing mobile web applications and/or iPhone/iPod applications

• Experience with AJAX or Flex


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, web design/development, or comparable work experience.
• 4+ years of experience in ColdFusion or .NET development environments.
• Experience working with nonprofits/associations a plus.
